PDF to Word
Exact layout, editable DOCX
About the PDF to Word
Turn a PDF into a Word document that looks like the original. In Exact layout mode every page keeps its pictures, colours, shapes and table lines, and each line of text is placed back in the same spot as real, editable text with its font, size, bold/italic and colour. Prefer text that re-wraps as you type? Flowing text mode rebuilds paragraphs, headings, columns, tables and pictures instead. Your files are processed in your browser and never uploaded to a server.
- Choose Exact layout (looks identical) or Flowing text (easy to rewrite).
- Choose or drop a PDF.
- Wait a moment while each page is converted.
- Download the .docx and open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.
Exact layout vs flowing text
Exact layout recreates every page as it looks in the PDF, so it's ideal for brochures, forms, certificates and reports where design matters. Each line stays where it was, so small edits are easy but long rewrites won't re-wrap. Flowing text rebuilds normal paragraphs, headings, columns and tables, which is better for contracts, essays and anything you plan to rewrite heavily.
Getting the best result
Convert the original PDF rather than a printed-and-scanned copy. If text looks slightly different in Word, install the font named in the PDF or pick a similar font. For scanned documents, run the pages through Image to Text (OCR) first to get editable text.
Works with Google Docs and LibreOffice
The downloaded .docx opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Apple Pages. Flowing text mode gives the most consistent result across all of them.
Frequently asked
Will the Word file look the same as my PDF?
In Exact layout mode, yes. Images, colours, backgrounds, tables and text positions are kept, and the text stays editable. If the PDF uses a font that isn't installed on your computer, Word shows a similar font instead.
Which mode should I choose?
Exact layout is best when you want the document to look identical, for example forms, brochures and reports. Flowing text is best when you plan to rewrite a lot, because paragraphs re-wrap as you type.
Is the PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Your files are processed in your browser and never uploaded to a server. That makes it safe for contracts, bank statements and other private documents.
Can it convert scanned PDFs?
Scanned pages are kept as images in the Word file. To get editable text from a scan, run the pages through our Image to Text (OCR) tool.
Is there a page or file size limit?
No fixed limit. Very long PDFs (hundreds of pages) take longer because each page is processed on your device.
Will hyperlinks and comments be kept?
Text, layout, images and colours are kept. Hyperlinks, form fields and PDF comments aren't carried over.
