Hash Generator
MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512
About the Hash Generator
A hash function turns any input into a fixed-length fingerprint. Hashes are used to verify downloads, store passwords and detect changes. Type text or drop a file to compute all common hashes at once, then compare against an expected checksum.
- Type or paste text, or choose a file.
- All hashes are calculated instantly.
- Paste an expected hash in the Verify box to check that it matches.
Frequently asked
Is my file uploaded?
No. Hashes are calculated in your browser with the Web Crypto API (and a local MD5 implementation), so even large files stay on your device.
Which hash should I use?
Use SHA-256 or stronger for anything security-related. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security but still common for simple checksums.
Can a hash be reversed?
No. Hash functions are one-way. The only way to find an input is to guess it, which is why long random passwords are important.
