UUID Generator
Random v4 & v7 UUIDs
About the UUID Generator
UUIDs (also called GUIDs) are 128-bit identifiers that are practically guaranteed to be unique. Generate random version 4 UUIDs, or time-ordered version 7 UUIDs that sort nicely as database keys, in bulk and in the format you need.
- Choose v4 (random) or v7 (time-ordered).
- Set how many you need and the format options.
- Press Generate, then copy or download the list.
Frequently asked
What is the difference between UUID v4 and v7?
v4 is completely random. v7 starts with a timestamp, so new IDs sort after older ones, which makes database indexes faster.
Can two UUIDs be the same?
In theory yes, but the chance is astronomically small: you would need to generate billions per second for many years to expect one collision.
Is a GUID the same as a UUID?
Yes. GUID is Microsoft's name for the same 128-bit identifier format.
Is what I type sent to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser and there's no server behind it, so what you type never leaves your device and nothing is stored. You can check: it keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
