About the SIP Calculator

A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) lets you invest a fixed amount in a mutual fund every month. Thanks to compounding, small regular investments can grow into a large corpus over time. Use this calculator to estimate the maturity value of a monthly SIP, an annual step-up SIP or a one-time lumpsum investment.

  1. Choose SIP or Lumpsum.
  2. Enter your monthly (or one-time) investment amount.
  3. Enter the expected annual return and the investment period in years.
  4. Optionally add a yearly step-up to increase your SIP each year.
  5. Read the invested amount, estimated returns and total value, plus the yearly table.

The power of starting early

₹5,000 a month for 30 years at 12% grows to about ₹1.76 crore, while the same SIP for 20 years grows to about ₹50 lakh. The extra 10 years more than triples the result because returns compound on returns.

SIP vs lumpsum

SIPs spread your purchases over time (rupee-cost averaging) and suit monthly salaries. A lumpsum can grow more if markets rise steadily, but carries more timing risk.

Questions

Frequently asked

How is SIP return calculated?

Each monthly installment is compounded at the monthly rate (annual return ÷ 12) until the end of the period. The calculator adds up the future value of every installment, which is the same as the standard formula FV = P × ((1 + r)^n − 1) ÷ r × (1 + r).

What return should I assume?

Returns are not guaranteed. Many people use 10–12% for long-term equity funds and 6–8% for debt funds, but past performance does not guarantee future results.

What is a step-up SIP?

A step-up (top-up) SIP increases your monthly investment by a fixed percentage every year, usually in line with salary growth. Even a 10% step-up can significantly increase the final corpus.

Is what I type sent to a server?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser and there's no server behind it, so what you type never leaves your device and nothing is stored. You can check: it keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
