Typing Speed Test
WPM & accuracy test
About the Typing Speed Test
How fast can you type? Take a timed typing test and get your speed in words per minute (WPM) along with your accuracy. Mistakes are highlighted as you go, and your best score is saved on your device.
- Choose a test length.
- Start typing the text shown. The timer starts with your first key.
- When time is up, see your WPM, accuracy and errors.
How to improve your WPM
Learn touch typing so you don't look at the keyboard, rest your fingers on the home row (ASDF JKL;), and practise 10 minutes a day. Accuracy first: speed follows naturally.
Frequently asked
How is WPM calculated?
WPM = (correctly typed characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. A “word” is standardised as five characters, including spaces.
What is a good typing speed?
The average is about 40 WPM. 60–70 WPM is good, and professional typists often exceed 80 WPM.
How can I type faster?
Learn touch typing, keep your fingers on the home row, focus on accuracy first and practise a few minutes every day.
Is what I type sent to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser and there's no server behind it, so what you type never leaves your device and nothing is stored. You can check: it keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
