Song Key Finder
Detect the key of a song
Play the melody or chords of the song on the keyboard (or a MIDI keyboard). The more notes, the better the guess.

About the Song Key Finder
Work out what key a song is in. Upload a song (MP3, WAV, M4A or video) and the tool measures how much of each of the 12 notes the music uses, then compares that with the profiles of all 24 major and minor keys to find the best match. Or play the melody or chords on the on-screen or a MIDI keyboard and it guesses the key from your notes. You get the key, its Camelot code for harmonic mixing, the relative major or minor, the scale notes, a note-by-note chart and the next most likely keys. Everything runs on your device.
- Choose From a song and drop an audio file, or From notes I play and play on the keyboard.
- Read the most likely key, its Camelot code and scale.
- Check the alternatives: relative major and minor keys share the same notes, so either may fit.
Frequently asked
How does key detection work?
It adds up how strongly each pitch class (C, C♯, D…) appears across the song and compares that profile with the typical note weightings of every major and minor key (the Krumhansl-Kessler profiles). The closest match wins.
Why does it show the relative minor or major as an alternative?
Relative keys use exactly the same notes (C major and A minor, for example), so the difference is which note feels like home. Listen to which chord the song resolves to.
What is the Camelot code?
A DJ system that numbers keys 1 to 12 with A (minor) or B (major). Tracks with the same number, or one step apart, mix together smoothly.
Is my music uploaded?
No. The audio is analysed in your browser and never sent anywhere.
