Liturgical Calendar
Season, Sunday & colour today
About the Liturgical Calendar
See where the church year is for any date: the season, the name of the day (such as the 3rd Sunday of Advent or the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time), the liturgical colour, and the Sunday lectionary year (A, B or C) with its gospel. Choose the Roman Catholic calendar or the Revised Common Lectionary used by Anglican, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian and other churches, with its Propers and Sundays after Epiphany and Pentecost. Every Sunday, holy day and principal feast of the year is listed with its colour, so you can plan music, paraments and vestments, and add the year to your calendar app.
- Pick a date (today is shown first) and your tradition.
- Read the day's name, season and colour, and the lectionary year.
- Scroll the year list, tap any day to see it, or use the arrows for other years.
- Download the year as an .ics file for Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar.
Frequently asked
What is the liturgical colour today?
It's shown at the top for today's date. In short: purple (or blue) in Advent, white at Christmas and Easter, purple in Lent, red on Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Pentecost, and green in Ordinary Time.
Which lectionary year are we in?
The Sunday cycle is three years long and starts on the 1st Sunday of Advent: Year A reads mainly Matthew, Year B Mark and Year C Luke. From Advent 2025 to Advent 2026 it's Year A, then Year B from 29 November 2026.
How is the date of Easter worked out?
Easter is the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after 21 March. Ash Wednesday, Pentecost and the other movable days follow from it. Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar, so their Easter is often later.
Does it include saints' days and readings?
It includes the principal feasts and holy days that can replace a Sunday, not every saint's day, and it doesn't list the readings. Local calendars can differ slightly, so check your diocese or denomination for local feasts.
Is what I type sent to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser and there's no server behind it, so what you type never leaves your device and nothing is stored. You can check: it keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
