About the CAGR Calculator
CAGR (compound annual growth rate) is the steady yearly growth that would take an investment from its starting value to its final value. It's the fairest way to compare investments held for different lengths of time, for example a mutual fund, a stock, a property or a company's revenue. Enter the start value, end value and number of years.
- Enter the starting value.
- Enter the final value.
- Enter the number of years between them (half years are fine).
- Read the CAGR, the total return and how long money takes to double at that rate.
Frequently asked
What is the CAGR formula?
CAGR = (final value ÷ starting value)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. For ₹1,00,000 growing to ₹2,00,000 in 5 years: (2)^(1/5) − 1 = 14.87% a year.
What's the difference between CAGR and absolute return?
Absolute return is the total growth, however long it took: doubling is 100%. CAGR spreads that growth evenly over the years, so 100% over 5 years is 14.87% a year, but 100% over 10 years is only 7.18% a year.
Is CAGR the same as XIRR?
Only for a single investment. For SIPs and other regular investments made on different dates, use XIRR, which accounts for each payment's timing.
Is what I type sent to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser and there's no server behind it, so what you type never leaves your device and nothing is stored. You can check: it keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
