Tune 4 or 5-string bass
Your browser will ask to use the microphone. Sound is analysed on your device and never recorded. Tap a string above to hear its reference note.
About Bass Tuner
This page opens the tuner set for 4-string bass guitar in standard tuning, E1 A1 D2 G2. Low bass notes are hard for many online tuners, but this one analyses enough sound to measure them precisely. Play each open string, let it ring and tune until the needle is centred. For a 5-string bass choose Bass · 5-string to add the low B.
- Press Start tuner and allow the microphone.
- Play the thick E string and let it ring.
- Tune it to the green zone, then do A, D and G.
Frequently asked
What are the bass guitar string notes?
A 4-string bass is tuned E A D G (E1 A1 D2 G2), an octave below the lowest four strings of a guitar. A 5-string adds a low B0 below the E.
Why won't the tuner pick up my bass?
Laptop microphones capture little deep bass. Play a bit harder, hold the phone or laptop close to the speaker cabinet or the bass body, or try the 12th-fret harmonic, which is an octave higher.
Can I tune my bass to drop D?
Yes. Tune the E string down to D (D1). Use the chromatic mode and watch for D1 in tune.
Is what I type sent to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser and there's no server behind it, so what you type never leaves your device and nothing is stored. You can check: it keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
